What happens when a Cassandra node goes down?
Most node failures result from temporary conditions, such as network issues. Therefore, Cassandra assumes the node will eventually come back online, and that permanent cluster changes will be executed explicitly using nodetool .
How many replicas can the Cassandra cluster tolerate as down?

The cluster can tolerate 2 replicas down. In a two datacenter cluster where each datacenter has a replication factor of 3, a quorum is 4 nodes.
How many Cassandra nodes do I need?
Rule of thumb: Some Cassandra MVPs recommend having no less than 6 nodes in your cluster. With less than 6, if you lose one node, you lose a good chunk of your cluster’s throughput capability (at least 20%).
Is Cassandra better for read or write?

Which node a row gets stored is decided by?
