What does the BLTouch do?
BL-Touch is a smart auto leveling sensor for 3D printers based on open source, which can precisely measure and adjust the distance between the build plate and printer nozzle in a simple and easy way. Automatic leveling achieves via the collaboration between the BL-touch device and its firmware.
How does BLTouch leveling work?
The key difference between an inductive probe and the BLTouch is that the BLTouch sensor physically touches the bed in the leveling process. The inductive probe uses currents induced by magnetic fields to detect metal objects nearby, eliminating the need to physically touch the bed in order to sense it.
How do I set Z offset?
The key to adjusting Z offset using G-code is to home the printer first with G28 Z0 . Next, G92 Z0. 1 can be used to set a manual Z offset for printing. In this case, the printer has established the current (home) position to be Z = 0.1 mm.
How to measure the offset of a bltouch probe?
Measure your XY Offset. To get accurate probe results, the Duet needs to know how far the BLTouch is from the nozzle in X and Y. To measure this, place a piece of paper on the bed and use tape to hold it in place. Move the nozzle down until the it touches the paper and leaves a small imprint. Make note of the current X and Y coordinate.
Is the bltouch Z probe good for any surface?
The BLTouch is an attractive Z probe option because it works on any surface, is relatively cheap, and provides good accuracy and repeatability. However, it can be tricky to get working.
How is the bltouch supposed to be mounted?
Mount the BLTouch Properly. The BLTouch must be mounted firmly and squarely to the print carriage. Any flex or tilt could make the results unreliable. Also, follow the BLTouch instructions carefully with regards to mounting height. The bottom of the BLTouch plastic shell must be 8mm+-0.5mm away from the nozzle tip to trigger properly.

The most current version of the BLTouch is the BLTouch-Smart V3.1 from Antclabs. Most clones are a knockoff of the older BLTouch Classic and may require a resistor to function properly with 3.3v logic boards.
