What is the difference between Arduino and ESP8266?
The power supply from the ESP8266 boards are between 2.5 V to 12 V based on the different boards. Arduino boards have a higher power supply between 7 V and 12 V. In practice the difference will not have a big impact.
What is the processor used in NodeMCU?

Is Arduino better than NodeMCU?
In common the NODEMCU is based on the ESP8266 microprocessor have a very low current consumption between 15 µA and 400 mA which can be further decreased with the deep sleep mode activated to 0.5 µA. The current consumption is then a factor 70000 higher in deep sleep mode for the Arduino Uno with 35 mA.
Which is better Arduino Uno or NodeMCU?
There’s the nodemcu which offers better performance in a smaller form factor, and WEMOS offers 8266 boards with an Arduino footprint for attaching shields. And you program through the Arduino IDE. The only potential down side is 3.3V vs 5V. (technically another downside would be the few ADC channels and GPIOs, but that’s solved by the ESP32).
Why is NodeMCU less popular than WEMOS D1 mini?
To make things more confusing, multiple companies marketed boards with the name “NodeMcu”, but with small hardware differences. Over time, the NodeMcu boards became less popular in the Arduino world because the similarly priced WeMos D1 Mini came out with the same functionality, but in a smaller form factor.
What’s the difference between ESP8266 and NodeMCU?
In the early days of the hobbyist community’s adoption of the ESP8266, ESP8266 development boards were marketed with the name NodeMcu and the term “NodeMcu” started to be associated more with the hardware than the firmware.
Is the Arduino IDE the way to go?
The Arduino IDE is definately the way to go. -there are a bunch of .bin files that are all different. Some have oled display code, some do not. -the latest NodeMCU bin file does not even work with the front page NodeMCU blink examples. -50% of the time I see Panic error messages. It’s pretty bad. I’ve had no issues with the Arduino IDE.
