Does S3 have cross region replication?
S3 Cross-Region Replication (CRR) is used to copy objects across Amazon S3 buckets in different AWS Regions.
What does S3 CRR Cross region replication do?
Amazon S3 Cross-Region Replication (CRR) With S3 Cross-Region Replication (CRR), you can replicate objects (and their respective metadata and object tags) into other AWS Regions for reduced latency, compliance, security, disaster recovery, and other use cases.
Is AWS S3 multi region?
S3 Multi-Region Access Points provide a single global endpoint to access a data set that spans multiple S3 buckets in different AWS Regions. This allows you to build multi-region applications with the same simple architecture used in a single region, and then to run those applications anywhere in the world.
An S3 bucket exists in one region, not in multiple regions, but you can access that bucket from anywhere. Now, while you can access a US Standard bucket quite happily from Singapore, the latency will be high so you might want to consider using CloudFront as a CDN.
What does S3 mean for cross region replication?
Amazon S3 Cross-Region Replication (CRR) now supports object filtering based on S3 object tags. This allows you to identify individual objects using S3 object tags for automatic replication across AWS Regions for compliance and/or data protection.
How is the cost of cross region replication calculated?
The cross-region replication amount billed in a month is based on the amount of data replicated through the cross-region replication feature during that month. The amount of data replicated is measured in GiB.
Why is cross region replication important for FINRA?
“Based on the results of our testing, the S3 cross-region replication feature will enable FINRA to transfer large amounts of data in a far more automated, timely and cost effective manner. Making use of the new feature to help meet resiliency, compliance or DR data requirements is a no brainer.”
Why do we need cross region replication in AWS?
In order to make it easier for you to make copies of your S3 objects in a second AWS region, we are launching Cross-Region Replication today. You can use this feature to meet all of the needs that I described above including geographically diverse replication and adjacency to important customers.
