Does AWS batch run on ECS?
AWS Batch uses Amazon ECS to execute containerized jobs and therefore requires the ECS Agent to be installed on compute resources within your AWS Batch Compute Environments. The ECS Agent is pre-installed in Managed Compute Environments.
What is AWS batch compute environment?
In a managed compute environment, AWS Batch helps you to manage the capacity and instance types of the compute resources within the environment. Managed compute environments launch Amazon ECS container instances into the VPC and subnets that you specify when you create the compute environment.
Can ECS clusters be spanned across multiple regions?
Although the cluster is dynamically scalable, it’s important to point out that it can only scale within a single region. Amazon ECS is region-specific, so it can span multiple availability zones, but it cannot span multiple regions.
Can AWS batch use Reserved instances?
You can use your Reserved Instances, Savings Plan, EC2 Spot Instances, and Fargate with AWS Batch by specifying your compute-type requirements when setting up your AWS Batch compute environments. Discounts will be applied at billing time.
What is batch execution?
Batch Execution refers to the process of initiating a Batch for current processing. When a Batch is submitted for execution, a series of commands are sent to the database with respect to the defined component parameters. You should have Batch Advanced User Role mapped to your user group.
How to create an ECS instance in AWS?
Open the IAM console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/iam/ . In the navigation pane, choose Roles. Search the list of roles for ecsInstanceRole. If the role doesn’t exist, use the steps below to create the role. Choose Create Role. For Select type of trusted entity, choose AWS service.
How is ECS used to manage a cluster?
ECS provides a simple solution to cluster state management: the management of followers (using the ECS Agent ), dispatching of sub-tasks to the proper location, and state inspection of the cluster are all exposed through the API. Rather than Spark or Hadoop having to manage a set of machines directly, ECS manages your instances.
Can a AWS Batch reduce the number of instances?
As demand decreases, AWS Batch can decrease the desired number of vCPUs in your compute environment and remove instances, down to the minimum vCPUs. For Allowed instance types, choose the Amazon EC2 instance types that can be launched.
What kind of compute environment does AWS Batch use?
AWS Batch will scale GPUs based on the required amount in your job queues. To use GPU scheduling, the compute environment must include instance types from the p2, p3, p4, g3, g3s, or g4 families. Currently, optimal uses instance types from the C4, M4, and R4 instance families.
