What is the chirping of a pulse?
The chirp of an optical pulse is defined as the time dependence of its instantaneous frequency. In this picture, it shows the electric field of a strongly up-chirped pulse, where the instantaneous frequency grows with time.
What is a quadratic chirp?
If a linear relationship exists between frequency and time, the chirp is known as a linear frequency mod- ulated (LFM) chirp. A quadratic relationship between frequency and time results in a quadratic frequency modulated (QFM) or quadratic chirp signal.
Is chirp an onomatopoeia?
Words that imitate the sounds or noises they refer to are examples of onomatopoeia. Some of these words can also function as verbs: Birds chirp, sirens blare, and cars crash. Words that are imitations of the sounds they refer to are examples of onomatopoeia.
What does it mean when birds chirp a lot?
Birds’ chirping is rather simple but it means a lot. Birds chirp to indicate danger, warning and communication. In most case, male birds will sing in mating seasons. It’s the signal of a male bird to seek for spouse after occupying a territory.
How to calculate the time of a chirp signal?
The time signal for a long LFM chirp is viewed by plotting the signal along successive rows. Each row covers 60 milliseconds, so only the first quarter of the signal is shown. Notice how the period is getting shorter for later times. Count the number of periods in two regions:
Where do chirp signals line up in DSP?
In the plot below the chirp is placed between a 300 Hz sinusoid on top and a 500 Hz sinusoid on the bottom. Where do the frequencies line up? the top plot seems to match near t = 20 milliseconds (0.02 secs).
How are chirps used in an inspection system?
Comparison of the signals used in a conventional, pulsed inspection system (inadvertently formed chirps) and a system using controlled chirps with deconvolution.
How is a chirp signal synthesized in a transducer?
Figure 9 follows two chirps, a controlled chirp and an inadvertent chirp (impulse drive), through typical stages of processing. Two signals were synthesized by convoluting the transducer’s response with each of the two electrical drive signals, and convoluting the result with a perfect echo at 1000 time samples and adding white noise.
