How does ispell work?
Like most computerized spelling checkers, ispell works by reading an input file word by word, stopping when a word is not found in its dictionary. Ispell pioneered the idea of a programming interface, which was originally intended for use by Emacs.

- To install ispell, run the following command in macOS terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal) sudo port install ispell Copy.
- To see what files were installed by ispell, run: port contents ispell Copy.
- To later upgrade ispell, run: sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade ispell Copy.

Ispell is a spell-checking program available for many Unix implementations. To use it, at your Unix shell prompt, enter: Replace filename with the name of the file you wish to check. In this case, for each word that does not appear in its dictionary, Ispell will display the word at the top of the screen and allow you to change it.
