How to synchronize client-server game state stack?
One way to solve this kind of problem is running the game simulation on the client and the server. So instead of simulating the world just on the server, do it on the client as well. Just send what the client did (for example “player hit monster”) to the server. The server runs the same simulation and checks the events.
How does the server maintain the game state?
The server maintains the game state and periodically calculates the next state and then it every once in a while (every n milliseconds) it sends out the new state to all the clients. This new state is able to be viewed and reacted to on the client side by the user.
How to synchronize client to server in MMO?
Switch to deterministic physics, send player commands, ai actions, objects coming into view and whatever can’t be determined client-side to clients. This must include non-commands, a confirmation that up to a certain point in time nothing but the commands that has been sent and received apply.
How often do clients send Status Update packets?
Currently, the clients send status update packets (UDP) to the server ~150 milliseconds (only if something has changed), and then these are receive and processed by the server. Currently, the server sends no response to these packets.
How to sync two games, design of server?
To sync the two games I can think of two methods: The client (Player 1) set a tower to position x, y and send a message to server: “I have placed a tower on position x, y”. The server sends this message forward to the other client (Player 2)
How does synchronization between client and server work?
I’ve a server/client architecture implemented, where all state changes are sent to the function, validated and broadcasted to all clients connected. This works rather well, but the system does not maintain synchronization between the client instances of the game as of now.
Is there a problem with game synchronization in C #?
The problem with this method is that in those n seconds lag the game would have had continued on the client side, and thus the client would have to rollback in time to update for the state change which definitely would get messy. So I’m looking for papers discussion the subjects or algorithms that solves it.
How do multiplayer games sync their state Part 1?
You can see that client B has a slower network connection, and although both A and B send input to the server at T0, the update from B reaches the server at T2 instead of T1, so the server only proceeds once it has receiveed all of the updates which is T2. What does this mean? We’re punishing all players because one of them is lagging.
Why is my game out of sync with my server?
This works rather well, but the system does not maintain synchronization between the client instances of the game as of now. If there happened to be a 5 second lag between the server and a particular client then he would receive the state change 5 seconds after the rest of the clients thus leaving him with game state out of sync.
How does the server update the game state?
So far I have the framework set up so that the server and clients interact with each other in order to provide state updates. The server maintains the game state and periodically calculates the next state and then it every once in a while (every n milliseconds) it sends out the new state to all the clients.
What to do when you have a server problem?
When you have a server problem of this type, contact your ISP to verify whether they are also going through an outage. Usually, they will give you troubleshooting advice that may just fix the problem. Empower your team.
What happens when there is no connection to the server?
Once the client hits connected it starts sending connection payload packets to the server. If no packets are received from the server in 5 seconds, the client times out and transitions to disconnected. While this protocol is easy to implement, we can’t use a protocol like this in production. It’s way too naive.
