Hidden Line Removal – assumes that objects are modeled with lines. – lines are created where surfaces meet – if only the visible surfaces are drawn, the invisible lines are automatically eliminated. ABCD, DCEF, ADFG are visible. Therefore, all lines are visible, that is, AB, DC, FE, AG, … , BC, CE, GF.
To get the realistic screen image, removal of these hidden surfaces is must. The identification and removal of these surfaces is called as the Hidden-surface problem. Z-buffer, which is also known as the Depth-buffer method is one of the commonly used method for hidden surface detection. It is an Image space method.
In 3D computer graphics, hidden surface determination (also known as hidden surface removal (HSR), occlusion culling (OC) or visible surface determination (VSD)) is the process used to determine which surfaces and parts of surfaces are not visible from a certain viewpoint.
What is the hidden surface problem?
When we view a picture containing non-transparent objects and surfaces, then we cannot see those objects from view which are behind from objects closer to eye. The identification and removal of these surfaces is called Hidden-surface problem.
What is meant by hidden-line removal?
Hidden line removal (HLR) is the method of computing which edges are not hidden by the faces of parts for a specified view and the display of parts in the projection of a model into a 2D plane. Hidden line removal is utilized by a CAD to display the visual lines.
The z-buffer algorithm is the most widely used method for solving the hidden surface problem. It has the following major advantages over other hidden surface removal algorithms: No sorting is required. Models can be rendered in any order.
Parallel algorithms Hidden-surface algorithms can be used for hidden-line removal, but not the other way around. Reif and Sen proposed an O(log4 n)-time algorithm for the hidden-surface problem, using O((n + v)/log n) CREW PRAM processors for a restricted model of polyhedral terrains, where v is the output size.
What is the process of hidden surface removal?
In 3D computer graphics, hidden surface determination (also known as hidden surface removal (HSR), occlusion culling (OC) or visible surface determination (VSD)) is the process used to determine which surfaces and parts of surfaces are not visible from a certain viewpoint.
What is hidden surface removal ( HSR ) and its algorithms?
Hidden surface removal (HSR) and its algorithms. In 3D computer graphics, hidden surface determination (also known as hidden surface removal (HSR), occlusion culling (OC) or visible surface determination (VSD)) is the process used to determine which surfaces and parts of surfaces are not visible from a certain viewpoint.
A hidden surface determination algorithm is a solution to the visibility problem, which was one of the first major problems in the field of 3D computer graphics. The process of hidden surface determination is sometimes called hiding, and such an algorithm is sometimes called a hider.
Hidden surface algorithm bears a strong resemblance to two-dimensional scan conversions. Object space methods: In this method, various parts of objects are compared. After comparison visible, invisible or hardly visible surface is determined.
