What do you need to know about multi spectral data?
Penn State e-Education post on multi-spectral data. Note they discuss AVHRR at the top which you won’t use in this lesson but be sure to read about Landsat. Homework plots 1 & 2 RGB and CIR images using NAIP data from 2017. The intermediate NDVI plots below are not required for your homework.
How does a hyperspectral ( HS ) image work?
A hyperspectral (HS) image consists of various bands of images of a real scene captured by sensors under different spectrums,whichcanfacilitatea・]edeliveryofmorefaith- ful knowledge under real scenes, as compared to traditional imageswithonlyoneorafewbands.
How to calculate NDVI in Python using Landsat?
Calculate NDVI in Python using. Get NAIP remote sensing data from Earth Explorer. Use the Landsat file naming convention to determine correct band combinations for plotting and calculating NDVI. Define additive color model. Click here to view the GitHub Repo with the assignment template.
What can NAIP imagery be used for on Earth?
NAIP imagery is often collected with just a red, green and blue band. However, some flights include a near infrared band which is very useful for quantifying vegetation cover and health. NAIP data access: For this lesson the USGS Earth Explorer site was used to download NAIP imagery.
How to open NAIP multispectral imagery in R?
To work with multi-band raster data you use the raster and rgdal packages. You’ll use the rgeos package to crop the data. Next, open up the NAIP imagery for the Cold Springs fire study area in Colorado. This is R telling us that this particular raster object has more bands (4 in total). You only imported the first band.
