How is the API used for static maps?
The Static Maps API can be initiated using both Named and Anonymous Maps using the layergroupid token. The API can be used to create static images of parts of maps and thumbnails for use in web design, graphic design, print, field work, and many other applications that require standard image formats.
When does something go wrong with the Maps API?
The Maps Static API may issue an error or warning when something goes wrong. This guide explains each error message, and provides further instructions for resolving errors. In the case of an invalid request, the Maps Static API returns an HTTP 4xx status code and a message describing the problem.
What is an example of a static API error?
An example of such an error condition is when the application exceeds its usage limits . If you use the Maps Static API without an API key, or if billing is not enabled on your account, the page displays an error image instead of a map, with a link indicating the type of error. For example “g.co/staticmaperror/key”.
Is there an error message on the Google Maps static API?
An error occurred while attempting to geocode the request. There are many variants of this message, depending on the element where geocoding failed (center, marker, visible, or path) and the number of elements that failed. One example of this warning is X-Staticmap-API-Warning:Error geocoding: marker 1, as shown in the above example.
Can a CartoDB be used as a map layer?
As described in the MapConfig File Format, a “cartodb” type layer is now just an alias to a “mapnik” type layer as above, intended for backwards compatibility. Additionally, static images from Torque maps and other map layers can be used together to generate highly customizable and versatile static maps.
How does a static map get its constraints?
A Named Maps static image will get its constraints from the view argument of the Create Named Map function. If view is not defined, it will estimate the extent based on the involved tables, otherwise it fallbacks to “zoom”: 1, “lng”: 0 and “lat”: 0.
Are there timeout limits for generating static maps?
Timeout limits for generating static maps are the same across CARTO Builder and CARTO Engine. It is important to ensure timely processing of queries. If you are publishing your map as a static image with the API, you must manually add attributions for your static map image.
