Why is smoke not showing in blender?
Start Blender 2.8 Beta ( Any version of December ) > default scene. Playback the scene in viewport, you can see smoke coming out of the cube. Render the frame or whole animation with Eevee or Cycles, other objects are there but no smoke.

Render within the 3d window is fine but F12 render just shows a white box (the cube which is the domain). I can’t see any Bake button. Aha! I chose OpenGL Render Image instead of the normal Render Image and it worked!
