What is thinness ratio?
Thinness ratio is the measure of roundness of the binary object. It is calculated as the ratio of the Area and the perimeter of the object. It can also be used to measure the regularity of an object. Regular objects have higher thinness ratio than irregular ones.
What are sliver polygons and how are they created?
Sliver Polygons are small areas which result from spatial overlays of different GIS layers. Sliver polygons often are characterised by long, elongated areas which do not represent an entity in reality and, therefore, need to be removed.
What is the idea of the thinness ratio?
The idea behind the thinness ratio is that once known the perimeter of the unknown shape if the shape is similar to a circle the measured area should be equal to the theoretical area of a circle with the circumference equal to the perimeter of the unknown shape.
What is the thinness ratio of a polygon?
The Thinness Ratio describes the relation between a polygons perimeter to its area using geometric attributes of a circle as a basis for comparison. A definition can be found in Microscope Image Processing, page 201. For a circle, we know that A = pi * r^2
In the metal cutting process, the chip flow of the metal is shorter and thicker than the metal prior to the cutting because of plastic deformation. The extent of this variance in dimension is denoted by the chip thickness ratio or cutting ratio.
How to predict the deformation zone thinning ratio?
A formula with high accuracy to predict the deformation zone thickness was fitted with the simulation results, and the influences of process parameters, such as tool diameter, step down, feeding speed, sheet thickness, and forming angle, on thinning ratio were analyzed. The accuracy of the finite element simulation was verified by experiment.
