Which approach to geographic representation is better suited to the automated calculation of slope?
Other tasks are better suited to one representation strategy or another. The calculation of slope, for example, or of gradient–the direction of the maximum slope along a surface–is more efficiently accomplished with raster data.
What are geographic techniques?
Specialists in geographic techniques study the ways in which geographic processes can be analyzed and represented using different methods and technologies. Mapmaking, or cartography, is perhaps the most basic of these.
Which areas are not covered by the UTM system?
The Universal Transverse Mercator system is not really universal, but it does cover nearly the entire Earth surface. Only polar areas–latitudes higher than 84° North and 80° South–are excluded. (Polar coordinate systems are used to specify positions beyond these latitudes.)

A model consists of one or more processes. A process consists of three elements: input data, a tool, and the tool’s output. Each output can become input for the next process. When you add a tool to a model by dragging it from the Catalog or Geoprocessing pane, its output element is also added, and both elements are light gray.
