What does a single contour line represent?
Each contour line represents a specific elevation and connects all the points that are at the same elevation. Every fifth contour line is bolded and labeled with numerical elevations. The contour lines run next to each other and NEVER cross. After all, a single point can only have one elevation.
How do you space a contour line?
These lines are evenly spaced apart. We call this spacing the contour interval. For example, if your map uses a 10-foot contour interval, you will see contour lines for every 10 feet (3 meters) of elevation — lines at 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 and so on.
Can a single contour line represent multiple elevations?
1. A contour line represents a single elevation; that is, all oints on the same contour line. 2. Where one closed contour line surrounds another, the inner contour line represents the higher elevation.
What are the basic features of contour lines?
