Is PDF the same as AI file?
AI. AI is a proprietary vector image format that stands for Adobe Illustrator. The format is based on both the EPS and PDF standards developed by Adobe. Like those formats, AI files are primarily a vector-based format, though they can also include embedded or linked raster images.
Can you convert PDF AI vector?
There are two different ways to convert a PDF to AI. Inside Illustrator, select the ‘file’ menu, select ‘open’, then locate the PDF file you want. From here, you’ll be able to save this PDF as an AI, finishing the conversion. Simply select the ‘file’ menu, and click ‘save’.
Why is my PDF File opening in Illustrator?
When you save a PDF in AI, it automatically opens in Apple Preview (or whatever PDF application you have set as default). So, if you’re editing several PDFs, and you like to save often (which is wise), your work is continually interrupted by application focus shifting to Preview. Aggravating to no end.
Why does illustrator sometimes save as PDF and other times?
When you Save As, it may “replace” your file in Illustrator but your original file will still exist (and you can open it back up). So if your file is AI and you save as PDF the AI file will still exist. You can always use “Save A Copy…” instead if you prefer to keep the original open while saving the other format.

When you Save or Save As from AI, you get two dialogs. The first one is the location and name of the file. The second has specific options for each file type you have chosen. The Create PDF Compatible File is one of the options in the second dialog if you have chosen.ai as the file type.

Adobe Illustrator is making my PDFs HUGE! Why? I received a pdf of about 1Mb, with 6 pages. I opened each page, one at a time, in Illustrator, changed some text, then saved, so it saved back to the original PDF. After 6 pages of minor text changes, my PDF swelled to 23 Mb! I have tried changing image compression to the minimum.
How to reduce the size of a PDF file?
