Is there any way to mirror bone position on the opposite side of body?

Blender Artists is an online creative forum that is dedicated to the growth and education of the 3D software Blender. Hi, this might be a bit of a noob question, but i’ve set up a pretty complex posture on one side of a characters body, and want to copy the bone positions to the other side. Is there any way of doing this?

Is it possible to mirror the axes of bones?

You can’t mirror the axes of bones. If a bone points right, with it’s Y axis pointing right, and its z axis up, the x axis will point forward. However if you rotate the bone to point left instead (y points left) z will still be up but x will point back and not forward.

How to mirror a bone in Blender Stack Exchange?

This option will mirror actions performed on bones across the X axis. In order to set up a rig, simply give the bones a left or right side suffix (e.g. .R/.L, _R/_L or _right/_left…) and make sure the rest of the names match. Bones that are centered do not need a suffix, since they are not being mirrored.

How do you rotate the bones in Blender?

After selecting the bones (in orange), I SHIFT + D , then scale the duplicated version on the X axis and move it to the right side to position it. However, as you can see through this image, the bones rotation are all wrong after scaling X-axis.

Why is auto weight painting not working on my Blender?

I have no doubles, my normals are outward, rig is lined up, but the rig isn’t actually deforming the model at all and auto weight painting isn’t doing anything. I’m incredibly frustrated with this right now and don’t know how to fix it.

How to fix rigging and auto weight painting?

Click and drag it un clear the rig of its parent. Again, selecting the character mesh first and then the rig second in object mode. Press Ctrl+P and parent with automatic weights. Now the rig works perfectly. Easy mistake to make, easy solution to fix it. I would also note that the hierarchy is a bit strange.
