MAC Addresses are ‘burned’ into the Network Interface Card (NIC) and cannot be changed. Duplicate MAC Addresses on the same LAN are a problem. Duplicate MAC Addresses separated by one or more routers is not a problem since the two devices won’t see each other and will use the router to communicate.
When two MAC addresses have the same IP address, you will end up sending data to the wrong device as on local LAN segment, data is being send based on MAC destination and source address.
Is it possible that the same MAC address appears in both ARP tables?
the MAC broadcast address? And each has its own table, and it is not possible that the same MAC address appears in both tables.
What is MAC address and what are the 2 parts that identifies the MAC address?
A MAC address is the physical address of the device. It is 48 bits (6 bytes) long and is made up of two parts: the organizational unique identifier (OUI) and the vendor-assigned address, as illustrated in Figure 5-1.
What causes duplicate MAC address?
A duplicated MAC address means you have multiple devices responding to data requests as if they are the only device with that address on the network, or you have a switch that keeps changing the port assignment for that address because the switch keeps seeing the device’s MAC address moving from port to port.
Does IP address change with new phone?
Every device on the Internet has two IP addresses: a public and a private one. In your home, your router uses your public IP address—assigned by your ISP—to connect to the Internet. Your mobile devices also have public and private IP addresses. But they’re constantly changing, and therefore, pretty much meaningless.
What happens if you have multiple NICs in one computer?
If multiple NICs are installed in one computer, they each have their own MAC addresses. If every computer in the world were connected to one large wire and knew every other computer’s MAC address, then no further addressing schemes would be required.
Can a NIC team have more than one network adapter?
These virtual network adapters provide fast performance and fault tolerance in the event of a network adapter failure. You must install NIC Team member network adapters in the same physical host computer. A NIC team that contains only one network adapter cannot provide load balancing and failover.
What happens if a NIC in a Vm gets disconnected?
If the NIC associated with the VF gets disconnected, the traffic can failover to the other switch without loss of connectivity. Because failover between NICs in a VM might result in traffic sent with the MAC address of the other vmNIC, each Hyper-V Virtual Switch port associated with a VM using NIC Teaming must be set to allow teaming.
How many NICs are supported in Windows Server 2016?
Since Windows Server 2016 supports up to 32 team interfaces per team, there are a variety of algorithms that distribute outbound traffic (load) between the NICs. The following illustration depicts a NIC Team with multiple tNICs. Also, you can connect your teamed NICs to the same switch or different switches.
