Does MPLS require OSPF?
MPLS needs a standard IP connection in order to establish forwarding bases. Ensure that the routing protocol (OSPF or IS-IS) works correctly. Note: The LSRs must have (up) Loopback interfaces with an address mask of 32 bits and these interfaces must be reachable with the global IP routing table.
Why do we need IGP?
An interior gateway protocol (IGP) is a type of protocol used for exchanging routing information between gateways (commonly routers) within an autonomous system (for example, a system of corporate local area networks). This routing information can then be used to route network-layer protocols like IP.
Why We Use MP BGP in MPLS?
Multiprotocol BGP allows information about the topology of IP multicast-capable routers to be exchanged separately from the topology of normal IPv4 unicast routers. Thus, it allows a multicast routing topology different from the unicast routing topology.
Why BGP is not used AS IGP?
BGP was purpose-built for exchanging routes between autonomous systems. IGPs were not designed to handle the scale of routing information and their functioning would be negatively impacted by the large scale of the Internet routing table.
Do you need an OSPF for MPLS TE?
Generally, the network consists of a core LSR with an edge LSR that applies labels to packets. Routing tables of the different LSRs are computed with an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP). A link-state protocol, such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) or Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), is required if you plan to deploy MPLS TE.
Can a MPLS be used as an IGP?
MPLS can be used along with any protocol as IGP before implementing other applications, but the link state routing protocol’s Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (ISIS) or Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) has to be used as the IGP for the MPLS traffic engineering application.
What kind of protocol is needed for MPLS?
This is the setup mechanism of an MPLS network: Routing tables of the different LSRs are computed with an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP). A link-state protocol, such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) or Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS), is required if you plan to deploy MPLS TE.
What kind of routers are used in a MPLS network?
An MPLS network is commonly a backbone network comprised of MPLS-enabled routers called Label Switch Routers (LSR). Generally, the network consists of a core LSR with an edge LSR that applies labels to packets. Routing tables of the different LSRs are computed with an Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP).
