What is subnet based VLAN?

In an IP subnet–based VLAN, all the end workstations in an IP subnet are assigned to the same VLAN. In this VLAN, users can move their workstations without reconfiguring their network addresses. If a packet is untagged or priority tagged, the switch associates the packet with any matching IP subnet classification.

Can a VLAN have multiple IP addresses?

the devices in the same subnet will be able to access each other. but they will still send their packets to a default gateway if they want to contact other subnets on the same vlan. and your arp table for each vlan will contain ip addresses in multiple subnets.

Can you have multiple subnets on a VLAN?

This is not best design but it is sometimes a necessary evil. This will allow multiple subnets on a vlan. yes secondary ip addressing on the router could do it. but only for 2 subnets . nice one mark. if you want maybe 5 subnets..then you will have to use 5 router sub interfaces.

VLANs are not complicated, they are just separate LANs but a lot less trouble to deal with than physically separate LANs as they don’t need separate hardware.
