How does a secondary IP address work?
A secondary IP address is a bind address. The secondary IP address is used only as a source IP address when it responds to incoming traffic to the secondary IP address. To create the primary IP address, use the ip-address command. To remove secondary IP addresses, use the no ip-secondary-address command.
Can I have 2 IP addresses?
Of course it can. Although it is not at all recommended to assign multiple IP addresses on a computer until there are multiple network interface cards or NICs installed in it, you can still do so. The reason why it is not recommended to have multiple IP addresses on a single network adapter is to avoid the bottlenecks.

Secondary addresses do not support DHCP if the Cisco router is acting as the DHCP relay agent. The router will insert it’s primary interface IP address into the DHCP request and the remote server will never see a request for the secondary subnet.
Can a Cisco router use a secondary IP address?
The use of secondary IP interface addresses on Cisco routers at least do not seem to have major pitfalls necessarily but moreover some limitations I’ve found it is useful to be aware of.
