How does IP route work?
IP Routing describes the process of determining the path for data to follow in order to navigate from one computer or server to another. A packet of data traverses from its source router through a web of routers across many networks until it finally reaches its destination router using a routing algorithm.
How does the Internet route packets?
The information used to get packets to their destinations are contained in routing tables kept by each router connected to the Internet. Routers are packet switches. A router is usually connected between networks to route packets between them. Each router knows about it’s sub-networks and which IP addresses they use.
How are routes chosen?
Routes are chosen and built in the routing table based on the routing protocol’s administrative distance. If there are multiple paths to the same destination from a single routing protocol, then the multiple paths would have the same administrative distance and the best path is selected based on the metrics.
What is TCP IP routing?
A route defines a path for sending packets through the Internet network to an address on another network. A route does not define the complete path, only the path segment from one host to a gateway that can forward packets to a destination (or from one gateway to another).
How does the IS-IS routing protocol work?
IS-IS is a link-state routing protocol, operating by reliably flooding link state information throughout a network of routers. Each IS-IS router independently builds a database of the network’s topology, aggregating the flooded network information.
How to set an is-is ip route number?
An Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) route tag number can be up to 4 bytes long. The tag value is set into a sub-TLV 1 for type, length, values (TLV) Type 135. Only one tag can be set to an IS-IS IP route (prefix). The tag is sent in link-state packet (LSP) protocol data units (PDUs) advertising the route.

You can tag Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) routes to control their redistribution. You can configure a route map to set a tag for an IS-IS IP prefix (route) or match on the tag (perhaps on a different device) to redistribute IS-IS routes.
How is routing information exchanged between Level 1 routers?
Routing information is exchanged between Level 1 routers and other Level 1 routers of the same area, and Level 2 routers can only form relationships and exchange information with other Level 2 routers. Level 1–2 routers exchange information with both levels and are used to connect the inter area routers with the intra area routers.
