What does the NAT do?
It enables private IP networks that use unregistered IP addresses to connect to the Internet. NAT operates on a router, usually connecting two networks together, and translates the private (not globally unique) addresses in the internal network into legal addresses, before packets are forwarded to another network.
What is one advantage of using NAT at the edge of the network?
Some benefits of NAT include: Reuse of private IP addresses. Enhancing security for private networks by keeping internal addressing private from the external network. Connecting a large number of hosts to the global Internet using a smaller number of public (external) IP address, thereby conserving IP address space.
How does NAT help in address depletion?
By translating multiple private addresses carried in IPv4 headers into one unique public address, NAT allows multiple intranet users to access the Internet using only one public address, effectively mitigating public IPv4 address exhaustion.
Which command will show you all the translation active on your router?
Which command will show you all the translations active on your router? Explanation: The command show ip nat translations will show you the translation table containing all the active NAT entries.
Does NAT help preserve IPv4 address space?
NAT can be configured to advertise only one address for the entire private network to the outside world. This functionality not only preserves IPv4 addresses, it also provides additional security by effectively hiding the private network behind that one address.
Why is’switchport trunk encapsulation’required on L3 switches?
Why is ‘switchport trunk encapsulation required on L3 switches? The default trunk encapsuation mode on ‘modern’ Cisco switches is to ‘auto’ negotiate, so why doesn’t ‘auto-negotiate’ work when configured from the L3 switch port?
What does UDP encapsulation mean in NAT traversal?
Nat Traversal also known as UDP encapsulation allows traffic to get to the specified destination when a device does not have a public address. This is usually the case if your ISP is doing NAT, or the external interface of your firewall is connected to a device that has NAT enabled.
What happens when a NAT device alters a packet?
So when the NAT device alters the packet, its integrity and authentication will fail. Also in some cases, depending on the level of encryption, the payload and in particular the headers are encrypted when using IPsec ESP mode. The NAT device cannot change these encrypted headers to its own addresses, nor do anything with them.
Can a source Nat be applied to a destination NAT?
A. Yes. Source and/or destination NAT translations can be applied to any interface or subinterfaces having an IP address (including dialer interfaces). NAT cannot be configured with Wireless Virtual Interface. Wireless Virtual Interface does not exist at the time of writing to NVRAM.
