Is IP Multicast reliable?

Is IP Multicast reliable?

Basic IP multicast is a simple communication mechanism that allows a single message to be sent to a group of receivers as an integral part of the communications services offered at the internetworking level. IP multicast is an unreliable messaging service implemented in the hosts and routers of the network.

What is multicast rate in wifi?

Essentially, the multicast rate is the minimum speed that a wireless device must be able to communicate at in order to connect to the router. So, the lower the multicast rate, the further away, or more accurately, the weaker the wireless signal, are allowed to connect.

What is wifi multicast state?

↳ android.net.wifi.WifiManager.MulticastLock. Allows an application to receive Wifi Multicast packets. Normally the Wifi stack filters out packets not explicitly addressed to this device. Acquring a MulticastLock will cause the stack to receive packets addressed to multicast addresses.

Can a server truly multicast over WiFi?

Server (Devices on WiFI): iperf -s -u -B 230.5.5.82 With these settings we’re sending multicast packets at 1Mbps for a minute. Running this test and looking at the wireless traffic on the access point shows it is consistently about 1Mbps so it must be doing true multicast.

Is there an AP that can multicast over WiFi?

Most APs are going to default to the slower speeds so being able to disable them to force it to use the higher rates will give a huge speed up. Being able to set this is probably the most important criterion for a multicast AP.

What’s the data rate for multicast over wireless?

Multicast is always sent at the basic rate, which was 6 Mbps for this BSSID, and a transmission time of 2072μs. Compared to M-to-U with a data rate of 540Mbps and a transmission time of 46μs.

How many Mbps can I get with mulitcast?

Edit: After testing things out more and on some ac APs, it turns out the important thing for mulitcast is being able to set the available rates. Multicast still uses g speeds so the available physical rates are 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48 and 54Mbps.
