Do I need a DHCP server for each subnet?
A subnet declaration is required for every network your DHCP server is serving. Multiple subnets require multiple subnet declarations. If the DHCP server does not have a network interface in a range of a subnet declaration, the DHCP server does not serve that network.
Why are there two DHCP servers on the same network?
When most people ask about “multiple DHCP Servers on the same network”, what they are usually asking for is this; they want more than one DHCP server issuing the same range of network addresses out to clients, either to split the load between multiple servers or to provide redundancy if one server is offline.
How do I know if rogue is DHCP?
One simple method is to simply run a sniffer like tcpdump/wireshark on a computer and send out a DHCP request. If you see any offers other then from your real DHCP server then you know you have a problem.
Is it possible to have two DHCP subnets?
If you are able, you might want to consider adjusting your network mask of your existing subnet instead though, so that your subnet is larger instead of having two subnets. If you don’t have lots of statically configured systems this should be pretty easy.
In the above scenario, when clients on VLAN 1 request a DHCP address from the OES server, the client will receive a 10.1.0.x address. Similarly, clients on VLAN 2 will receieve a 10.2.0.x address when a request is sent to the OES DHCP server. However, DHCP Shared Networks act differently. Refer to the snipit from the documentation above.
When do I need More than one DHCP server?
If your router does not support RFC 1542 BOOTP relay agents, or if some of your network segments are geographically dispersed over slow links, then you will need to place one or more DHCP server in each subnet.
How to add one DHCP server in network with two scopes?
Hence I added one DHCP server in network with two scopes. One is for 192.168.1.0/24 & another one is for 192.168.2.0/24. But I am not able get the IP lease from 2.0 scope configured in DHCP server. As I am relatively unfamiliar with DHCP whole this years. Its getting little bit tricky for me right now.
