Can one subnet talk to another subnet?
Are you referring to two subnets on the same VLAN, from your previous question? Sorry for the hairsplitting, but your question asks for, why devices in different subnets can’t talk. The answer is: yes, they can talk.
Do subnets have the same subnet mask?
Subnet masks always work from left to right. Devices are said to be within the same subnet if their IP Address starts with the same digits, but ends with a different set of digits. If the subnet mask is 255.255. 255.0, then the first three octets of all devices must be the same.
How do you subnet a Class A network?
Valid subnet address: To figure out the valid subnet address, simply subtract the subnet mask from 256. For example, if you had a Class A mask of 255.240. 0.0, the equation would be 256-240=16….128.0 subnet:
- Subnet: 10.0. 128.0.
- Broadcast: 10.0. 255.255.
- Valid host range: 10.0. 128.1 through 10.0. 255.254.
How do you create a subnet?
Steps Click the Network tab. In the Subnets tab, click Create. In the Create Subnet dialog box, specify subnet details, such as the name, subnet IP address or subnet mask, range of IP addresses, gateway address, and broadcast domain. You can specify the IP addresses as a range, as comma-separated multiple addresses, or as a mix of both.
How to make a subnet?
Subnetting Tutorial Watch the Subnetting Video Tutorial Determine the classful mask. 192 = Class C Class C default mask = 255.255.255.0 Determine how many additional subnet bits exist beyond the classful boundary. Since this is a class C address, we are only going to look at the fourth octet. Determine how many host bits remain. Find the exponents of both subnet bits and host bits using the cheat sheet:
What is a subnet example?
Subnetting example: For example, if a LAN connects to the internet using a router. The computers on LAN are of C class of IP addresses. The LAN can have a maximum of 254 hosts with the same Network Id if a LAN computer has an IP address 192.168.1.*. The network id is 192.168.1. The subnet mask is 24 bits, and the value is 192.168.1, or we can say 192.168.1.1/24.
What is a subnet IP address?
IP Address: A subnet is division of an IP network (internet protocol suite), where an IP network is a set of communications protocols used on the Internet and other similar networks. It is commonly known as TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol).
