Do MAC addresses get recycled?
Manufacturers re-use MAC addresses and they ship cards with duplicate addresses to different parts of the United States or the World so that there is only a very small chance two computers with network cards with the same MAC address will end up on the same network.
What happens if two devices have the same MAC address?
In order for a network device to be able to communicate, the MAC Address it is using must be unique. If two devices have the same MAC Address (which occurs more often than network administrators would like), neither computer can communicate properly. On an Ethernet LAN, this will cause a high number of collisions.
Can you do anything with MAC address?
Each computer and device contains a unique MAC address, thus the network administrator can create a black and white list of addresses he or she wants to block or to allow onto the network. This can be used with or without wireless encryption or the hidden network technique.
Can 2 systems have same IP address?
If the Wireless access points are NAT enabled, then of course, yes, two different machines can have the same IP address. For example, your Default Gateway is 192.168. 1.1, one access point WAN IP is 192.168. Also, your second access point can give the same range independent of the first access point.
Is there any issue with a vendor reusing MAC addresses?
You can go to Vendor/Ethernet/Bluetooth MAC Address Lookup and Search to find the vendor given a particular MAC Address or find a MAC Address Range given to a vendor. This is incorrect. Devices are not uniquely identified by their MAC addresses.
