Where do we get data on global temperatures from?
Modern observations mostly come from weather stations, weather balloons, radars, ships and buoys, and satellites. A surprisingly large number of U.S. measurements are still made by volunteer weather watchers.
How do you determine climate?
The two most important factors in the climate of an area are temperature and precipitation. The yearly average temperature of the area is obviously important, but the yearly range in temperature is also important. Some areas have a much larger range between highest and lowest temperature than other areas.

Where does the daily weather data come from?
Daily weather records come from automated and human-facilitated observation stations in the Global Historical Climatology Network-Daily database.
How to find weather data by ZIP code?
Under Select Weather Observation Type/Dataset, select Daily Summaries. Under Select Data Range, click the calendar icon and select dates on the Start and End calendars to reflect your dates of interest. Then click APPLY. Under the Search for dropdown, select ZIP codes. Enter your ZIP code as the Search term, and then click Search.
How to get daily temperature and precipitation reports?

You’ll receive a email confirming your order right away. Then, you’ll receive another email with a link to download your data, usually within the hour.
Where can I find the daily weather records?
The daily records summarized here are compiled from a subset of stations in the Global Historical Climatological Network. A station is defined as the complete daily weather records at a particular location, having a unique identifier in the GHCN-Daily dataset.
