Does assigning additional resources to a task will always reduce the amount of time required to complete the task?
When you assign resources to a task, Project calculates how long the task is likely to take to complete using those resources. If you assign multiple resources at the same time, the duration doesn’t change from your original estimate.
How do I assign a group of resources to a task in MS project?
On the View tab, in the Task Views or Resource Views group, choose the view you want. To group assignments, select the Task Usage or Resource Usage view. On the View tab, in the Data group, choose More Groups in the Group by box.
What is the difference between fixed units and fixed duration?
If the assigned task type is Fixed Units, assigning additional resources shortens the duration of the task. If the assigned task type is Fixed Duration, assigning additional resources decreases the individual unit values for resources.
How does MS project calculate duration?
When you enter a Duration value for a task in Microsoft Project, the software always calculates the schedule of the task in working days. For example, a Duration value of 10 days indicates a time span of 10 working days, calculated according to the schedule of the Project Calendar specified for your project.
What happens when you assign two resources to a task?
For example, if a task with a four-day duration is assigned to two resources, the duration stays at four days, and each resource is assigned to work on the task for four days. However, if you assign two additional resources, the duration decreases to two days because the duration is expected to be half as long with twice as many resources.
How to assign multiple resources to a in MS Project and?
If I change the work duration for the resource on the “Assignment Information” display to 11 days, MS Project recalculates work to be 88 hours for the resource (11 days x 8 hours/day).
What happens when you change the duration of a task?
But if you change the number of resources for a task that already has an assignment, Project calculates how much time it will take with these resources and will decrease or increase either the task’s duration value or its work value, based on the task type. This is known as effort-driven scheduling.
