Is it better to print PLA hotter or colder?
When printing with a heated bed, do NOT exceed temperatures beyond 70°C unless specified by the manufacturer as this can cause most PLA filaments to crystallize rapidly and actually cause warping. When printing PLA it is best to print with the cooling fan ON.
What happens when nozzle is too hot?
If you’re printing too hot (with any filament, not just PLA) you’re going to see stringing and blobs/oozing because the material is getting runny and exiting the nozzle in an uncontrolled manner. Because it’s uncontrolled, you will also likely see artifacts showing up in your prints.
What causes a PLA nozzle to jam at the hot end?
2) Hot end temperature is too low: If your hot end temperature is too low, filament can’t be fed through the and this causes the extruder to grind away at the filament, making it even more difficult to extrude. The Fix: Check the temperature specifications for your specific filament. PLA likes to extrude around 200C and ABS around 245C.
What happens if your hotend is too cold?
If your hotend is too cold, it can cause two different kinds of jams. I’ll call them Jam 1 and Jam 2. Jam 1 – your hotend is too cold, you filament cannot extrude at the proper speed (or at all). As a result, the hobbed bolt grinds away the filament, leaving nothing behind to pull on.
What to do when your hot water heater jams?
The Fix: You’ll generally hear your extruder motor grinding or clicking when filament is jammed and if that’s the case, stop the print and remove the filament. Make sure the cooling fan for your hot end is running properly and ensure that the heat sink and heater block are securely attached.
Why is PLA filament prone to heat creep?
PLA filament is particularly prone to heat creep because of its low melting temperature and high heat capacity. Remedies for heat creep can be pushing filament though manually, or increasing the temperature for a moment, extruding, and then decreasing temperature.
