Why is my browser unable to open video device?
I haven no success in getting a videostream in my browser although with VLC on Raspbian I can get a stream from my IP camera as well as from webcams (with v4l2). Using motioeyes I can add the cameras (using same URL as with VLC), the cameras are added to the viewer but the screen remains grey “Unable to open video device).

I’m having problems with Motion’s live stream going grey and saying unable to open video device. I can get my live stream working by rebooting my PI and, following a reboot, entering the command sudo modprobe bcm2835-v4l2 (only with the command removed from the RC.local file).

Hope this helps and good luck in resolving this issue! if works then put above line in /etc/rc.local to run this at boot time. If you are using USB camera, then uninstall the RPI web interface and then install fswebcam and ffmpeg and then start the motion.

It works perfectly fine via VLC and through Onvif device manager with the url: rtsp://192.168.1.113:554/live/ch0 but shows the grey screen as show via the above screenshots… This was caused by using a “+” in the password for the camera, apparently that character cannot be sent correctly in the authentication phase from motioneye…?
