What is LDM in assembly language?
LDM—or load multiple—is my favorite assembly instruction of the ARM instruction set. Here’s why. Here, it takes a base register (in this case, r4 ) and a register set (in this case, {r0, r1, r2, r3} ). It loads consecutive words from the address in the base register into the registers in the set.
What is the purpose of LDM instruction?
The Cortex-M architecture supports loading and storing data to/from multiple memory locations using a single command. LDM allows the user to specify a single base address and a variable list of registers to load values from. STM uses a base address and a register list to write multiple WORDs of data.
What is EOR in ARM?
the AND instruction performs a logical AND operation. the ORR instruction performs a logical OR operation. the EOR instruction performs a logical Exclusive OR operation. the BIC instruction performs an Rd AND NOT Rm operation.
What is assembler in ARM?
The process of using an assembler like as to convert from (ARM) assembly language to (ARM) machine code is called assembling. In summary, we learned that computers understand (respond to) the presence or absence of voltages (signals) and that we can represent multiple signals in a sequence of 0s and 1s (bits).
Which register is used as program counter in ARM processor?
The Program Counter (or PC) is a register inside the microprocessor that stores the memory address of the next instruction to be executed. In ARM processors, the Program Counter is a 32-bit register which is also known as R15.
What is load multiple?
Load-store multiple instructions can transfer multiple registers between memory and the processor in a single instruction. The transfer occurs from a base address register Rn pointing into memory.
When to substitute LDM for LDR in assembler?
If you write an LDM instruction with only one register in reglist, the assembler automatically substitutes the equivalent LDR instruction. Be aware of this when comparing disassembly listings with source code. You can use the –diag_warning 1645 assembler command line option to check when an instruction substitution occurs.
What does writeback mean in LDM ARM Assembler?
Writeback means that the base register will be updated with the delta equal to the size of transferred data. In the variant without ! the writeback doesn’t happen so R4 retains the original value. In the LDR and STR instructions you may also encounter pre-indexed and post-indexed notation: For more information see the ARM Assembler Guide.
What does LDR mean in ARMv4 assembler?
LDR r8, [r10] ; loads R8 from the address in R10. LDRNE r2, [r5,#960]! ; (conditionally) loads R2 from a word ; 960 bytes above the address in R5, and ; increments R5 by 960. For word loads, Rt can be the PC. A load to the PC causes a branch to the address loaded. In ARMv4, bits [1:0] of the address loaded must be 0b00.
How to block copy with LdM and STM?
Home » Writing ARM Assembly Language » Block copy with LDM and STM You can sometimes make code more efficient by using LDM and STM instead of LDR and STR instructions. The following example is a routine that copies a set of words from a source location to a destination a single word at a time:
