Authoritative domains You configure an accepted domain as an authoritative domain when all recipients in that domain exist in your Exchange organization. An organization can be configured with multiple authoritative domains. The set of email domains for an organization are the authoritative domains.
There are two types of Authoritative Name Servers:
- Master server (primary name server) – A master server stores the original master copies of all zone records. A hostmaster only make changes to master server zone records.
- Slave server (secondary name server) – A slave server is exact replica of master server.
Why is .org credible?
More Credible – Similar to the way .com extensions make for-profit businesses seem more credible, . org extensions make non-profit organizations appear legitimate. It sends a clear message that the site is providing information or a service with no intention of making a profit.
What domains are reliable sources?

Authoritative DNS servers are responsible for the proper mapping of records and to respond to the recursive servers with important information for each website, such as; corresponding IP addresses and other necessary DNS records. Non-authoritative name servers do not contain the original zone files.
To find out who is responsible for DNS hosting of a domain, you need to find the authoritative DNS servers (or Name Servers) for that domain. A list of DNS servers authoritative for the domain is shown in the Name Server (NS) record. To find this record, you can use the NSLOOKUP tool.
What is the name server for a domain?
Domain name server is a server responsible for keeping the file that contains information about the domain name(s) and corresponding IP addresses (zone file) as well as for providing the above-mentioned information during DNS queries. Domain name servers are a fundamental part of the Domain Name System.
What is the difference between authoritative server and a local DNS server?
Authoritative name servers store DNS record information –usually a DNS hosting provider or domain registrar. Recursive name servers are the “middlemen” between authoritative servers and end-users because they have to recurse up the DNS tree to reach the name servers authoritative for storing the domain’s records.
Is .org or .net domain better?
net is better than other specialty extensions. But since it isn’t quite up there with .com and . org extensions, you might not get the same benefits as using those alternatives.
