- From Setup, enter Activity Settings in the Quick Find box, then select Activity Settings.
- Select Enable user control over task assignment notifications.
- Click Submit.

Are there users not receiving email notification for task assignment?
Currently users receiving notifications only, if they are subscribed to Group conversations. But I know, that support page say this is not neccesary to receive notification if task is assigned to someone. But it looks like, that it is not this case. Why is my task assignment not going out?
A task assignment notification will not go out if you’re changing the task owner to yourself. You can go around this by logging in as another user to change the owner to yourself or by changing a test user’s email to your own to verify the email is sent. Do you need an email alert with Salesforce Lightning?
Even after enabling the following permissions, no email notifications are received from Salesforce Lightning, when a task is created (manually) and assigned to user. Does this require an email alert with workflow?

It’s not a bug…Microsoft changed how Plans are created: by default plans are created with the Send notifications about task assignment and task completion to the Plan’s conversation feed. disabled so that’s the reason why you are not receiving e-mails when a task is assigned or completed…to fix it, just edit the plan and enable that setting
