How do you get the plastic off of a print bed?
6 Answers
- If you are printing with ABS (or PLA), acetone will dissolve it.
- Heating the bed back up may make the plastic softer and easier to remove.
- If you are using tape on the bed, you could remove the tape to remove the plastic stuck to the tape.
Do you need a heated bed to print with ABS?
Bed adhesion is one of the most important elements for getting a good 3D print. (For more information about printing with ABS, like tips and tricks for success, check out our other article here.) A 3D printer with a heated bed is required for successfully printing with ABS filament because ABS plastic shrinks when cooling.
What to use to print ABS filament on glass?
Printing on glass gives the bottom of your prints an incredibly smooth and shiny finish. We recommend applying a layer of PVA glue stick which acts as a ‘release agent’ when removing the finished print. Once the 3D Print is completed, it must be removed from the build plate when the temperature is high.
How can I best clean the print bed after a printer?
The printer I’m using has a glass print bed, which I occasionally partially cover with blue painter’s tape during printing. If you are printing with ABS (or PLA), acetone will dissolve it. Simply pour some on the bed and wipe it off (beware, acetone can damage beds that have a coating or a plastic sheet over them, be sure to test this first).
Can You 3D print ABS on a perforated board?
During printing, the extruded ABS plastic sticks through the perforated holes gripping the plastic to the board. 3D Printing on perforated boards will require a raft to ensure the final part has a smooth bottom surface. Printing ABS straight onto a heated glass bed with PVA Glue stick is an excellent option.
