What is an executable hash?
executable-hash Provides the SHA1 hash of the executable. This hash can either be injected into the executable as a step after compilation, or calculated at runtime.
How do I create a custom executable file?
How to create an EXE package:
- Select the desired software folder in the Software Library.
- Choose the Create an Application Package>EXE Package task and then follow the wizard.
- Enter a package name.
- Select the executable file, e.g. a setup.exe.
- Specify the execution options in the Command line options.
What type of files go into creating an executable program?
The two primary types of executable files are 1) compiled programs and 2) scripts. On Windows systems, compiled programs have an . EXE file extension and are often referred to as “EXE files.” On Macintosh computers, compiled programs have an . APP extension, which is short for application.
How is file hash calculated?
A hash is a one-way digest function. It takes a number of input bytes and computes a fixed-length value from it. If you compute the same hash again, you get the same result. Generally the numeric value of the length of the input is not considered, as the data is inherently changed if you change the length.
When does the hash of a file need to be constant?
The hash of a file should be constant for as long as the file is identical (i.e. contains only the same bytes, in the same order). It’s very rare to find applications that rewrite their on-disk representation at runtime, so the hash should be constant.
Is it possible to modify a file without changing its hash?
So basically, no. As some other posts have mentioned, if you are adventurous and life and death are at stake, you could disassemble the application binary and actually remove the machine language check for the hash. This is varsity-ninja work though. Thanks for contributing an answer to Stack Overflow!
What happens to the hash in Firefox when the Exe changes?
The hash will only change if the exe changes. That will only happen if the app modifies itself, which isn’t going to happen on windows without the app restarting. Firefox might update itself (including a restart), but apart from such cases, the hash will remain the same. The hash will change if the file changes.
Is it possible to duplicate a crypto hash of a file?
You can have the app quit checking, but no, there is no way to duplicate a crypto hash of an existing file. That’s the point. Does a file exist having your desired settings and with the same hash? possibly
