What does key encipherment mean?
Overview# KeyEncipherment is a Key Usage bit which is used when the subject Public Key is used for enciphering Private Key or Secret-key keys, i.e., for key transport. KeyEncipherment means that the key in the certificate is used to encrypt another Cryptographic Key (which is not part of the application data).
The authority key identifier (AKI) is an X. 509 v3 certificate extension. It contains a key identifier which is derived from the public key in the issuer certificate. The AKI and SKI values are mainly used in certificate path construction in order to identify the right issuer certificate.
What type of certificate format can be used to transfer a private key?
What type of certificate format can be used if you want to transfer your private key from one host computer to another? PKCS #12 / .
What is the keyUsage for data Encipherment?
Setting KeyUsage to 0x30 enables both key encipherment and data encipherment. However I am cannot seem to find details about the enhanced key usage in the generated certificate. Perhaps I’m setting this value incorrectly in the request.
What does key encipherment mean in a certificate?
Key encipherment means that the key in the certificate is used to encrypt another cryptographic key (which is not part of the application data).
Which is an example of data Encipherment in SSL?
An example is S/MIME enveloping, where a fast (symmetric) key is encrypted with the public key from the certificate. SSL protocol also performs key encipherment. Data Encipherment is used when when the public key is used for encrypting user data, other than cryptographic keys.
Can a certificate be used for data Encipherment?
Data encipherment means that the key in the certificate is used to encrypt application data. This is not used in TLS. But certificates are not only used for TLS (for example also in S/MIME, VPN, signing of documents …) so there might be use cases where this is needed.
