What is Airodump-Ng?
Airodump-ng is used for packet capturing of raw 802.11 frames and is particularly suitable for collecting WEP IVs (Initialization Vector) for the intent of using them with aircrack-ng. If you have a GPS receiver connected to the computer, airodump-ng is capable of logging the coordinates of the found access points.
Is there a 5GHz Deauther?
As of right now (2018) no hackable 5GHz SoC is available in the form of something like the ESP8266. Even if someone would make such a chip, it would be incompatible with this software. You could build a dual band Deauther with a Raspberry Pi and the right WiFi module.

The general steps in using aircrack-ng is: sudo airmon-ng start wlan0. This puts your wireless interface into monitor mode, which is the mode where you can capture all packets, even if they weren’t directed to your computer.

How to find a 5Ghz router with airodump-ng?
I ended up finding ‘5260 mhz’, and that translated to ‘channel 140’, but that did not seem to work with airodump-ng, so I locked the frequency in (airodump-ng -C 5260-5260 –bssid 00:22:6B:68:5D:19 -w office5ghz wlan0mon) It takes a few seconds for that to find the router, but it does find it.

Is there a way to sniff 5GHz networks?
Has anyone played around with sniffing 5ghz networks, and do they have any pointers or if there is a better application to use when sniffing these networks? Im interested in this as well as I have an alfa N dual band usb dongle and have never known how to work the 5ghz band instead of just the 2.4.
Are there any WiFi adapters that support 5GHz?
1. Alfa Networks AWUS051NH (chipset: Ralink RT2770/Ralink RT2750) It can see everything in 2.4 GHz very well. It also looks like it can see packets in 5GHz if they use 802.11a.
