Why is my WebSocket closing?
Close event marks the end of a communication between the server and the client. After marking the end of communication with the help of onclose event, no messages can be further transferred between the server and the client. Closing the event can occur due to poor connectivity as well.
Does WebSocket send keep alive?
WebSocket uses HTTP as the initial transport mechanism, but keeps the TCP connection alive after the HTTP response is received so that it can be used for sending messages between client and server.
Why is it important to know about WebSocket security?
WSS is secure, so it prevents things like man-in-the-middle attacks. A secure transport prevents many attacks from the start. In conclusion, WebSockets aren’t your standard socket implementation. WebSockets are versatile, the established connection is always open, and messages can be sent and received continuously.
When to use SSL or WS in WebSockets?
The only http (s) is on initial page load and when logging in/registering. I’m a complete noob so correct me if I’m wrong, but SSL is only for preventing man in the middle attacks, right? None of the packets I send over websockets are “confidential”. It’s mostly just [packetName, xCoord, yCoord].
How is WebSocket vulnerable to cross site attacks?
On top of this WebSockets don’t rely on the Same Origin Policy (SOP) and thus attacks like Cross-Site WebSocket Hijacking are possible unless the server side properly checks the Origin of the connection. Is it secure enough for extremely sensitive information like used in banks?
Why does WebSocket not have Cors inbuilt?
WebSocket doesn’t come with CORS inbuilt. That being said, it means that any website can connect to any other website’s websocket connection and communicate without any restriction! I’m not going into reasons why this is the way it is, but a quick fix to this is to verify Origin header on the websocket handshake.
