Does encryption protect sensitive data?
Encryption can help protect data you send, receive, and store, using a device. Encryption is the process that scrambles readable text so it can only be read by the person who has the secret code, or decryption key. It helps provide data security for sensitive information.
Should all PII be encrypted?
Encryption is one of the proven ways to protect PII data. Once consumer data is encrypted, the risk of a data breach can be mitigated to a large extent, and the impact of the breach can be contained – since the stolen data will be of no use to the attacker in an encrypted form.
How does encryption help protect your sensitive data?
Most computers still have removable hard disks that aren’t soldered onto the motherboard; alternatively, as extra storage, people use external disks. That’s why having full-disk encryption is a great extra security layer: if you misplace your disk or it is stolen, then no one can access any of the information on it.

Is it safe to store authentication data in encrypted fields?
The encrypted fields have value for users who have View Encrypted Data permission. We do not recommend storing authentication data in the encrypted custom fields. However, these fields are suitable for storing other types of sensitive data (credit card information, social security numbers, etc.).
How are public and private keys used in encryption?
Asymmetric encryption uses two keys for encryption and decryption. A public key, which is shared among users, encrypts the data. A private key, which is not shared, decrypts the data. There are several types of encryption, each developed with different needs and security needs in mind.
