Can video cards have viruses?
There is the possibility that a used graphics card could be preloaded with malware. If they are running code that drops GPU malware onto your graphics card *that* is the code that (fingers crossed) your anti-virus and other security software should be able to prevent from executing in the first place.
What graphics cards should not be touched?
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Prior to touching the graphics card, make contact with a grounded, metal object (case works fine). Don’t touch the contacts on the card as your skin contains natural oils that could (does NOT mean “will”) cause problems.
Is data saved on a graphics card?
Graphic video cards have their own data storage, sometimes called VRAM or Video Random Access Memory. Storing video data bits in VRAM frees up memory in the main computer so it has more room for application programs and documents.
Can viruses infect motherboards?
While it’s technically not impossible for malicious software to infect the BIOS/UEFI of a motherboard, the short answer to your question is “no”. Researchers have proven that such viruses could exist but it would be very difficult to produce and even harder to spread as they would have to be hardware specific.

So long as its only touching the backplate (and nothing else) you should technically be fine. I personally wouldnt like it touching the GPU at all though.
Is it OK to touch GPU PCB?
No problem. There’s really no way to avoid touching a PCB (motherboard, RAM, GPU, PCI-e card, etc) when you’re building or working on a computer.
