Managed navigation lets you define and maintain your site navigation by using term sets. With managed navigation, it’s not the location of your content that defines where in the navigation your content will appear, but how you tag your content with terms from a term set. Managed navigation creates friendly URLs.
Adding a page by using the New Document button on the Files tab in the ribbon does not create a new term in the navigation term set. Each term in a navigation term set has a friendly URL that loads a physical page in the context of that term. Terms in the navigation term set can be configured to do one of the following:
Where do I find managed navigation in SharePoint?
You’re a member of the Owners SharePoint group. From Settings , select Site settings. On the Site Settings page, in the Look and Feel section, select Navigation. On the Navigation Settings page, in the Global Navigation section, select Managed Navigation: The navigation items will be represented using a Managed Metadata term set.
How can I change the landing page of a term?
Click save to save the changes made in the navigation tab and go to term driven tab. We can also set the target page that should appear on clicking the term. Use the browse functionality to select the landing page. Click save in the term store management tool page. Click OK in the navigations settings page to save the changes.
Managed metadata components like term sets and the term store are used to enable taxonomy-driven navigation for your site.
SharePoint Server provides a shortcut to help you migrate sites that don’t use managed navigation to become sites that do use managed navigation. If your site already has web pages organized into folders, you can associate each folder that contains pages with a term in the navigation term set.
How to show in the current navigation menu?
In the Show in current navigation menu? column, enter Yes if this term should appear in the current navigation menu when the site visitor navigates to the page corresponding to this term’s parent term. Enter No if the term should not appear in the current navigation menu.
