What are visitors in SharePoint?
Most users fall into one of SharePoint’s three default groups:
- Site Visitors: Grants read-only access to the site and allows users to create alerts.
- Site Members: Confers the Contribute permission level for users, which allows them to add, edit, and modify items and browse sites.
- Site Owners: Grants full control.
When to invite users to a group site?
Also, anytime you want to give recipient read-only access – inviting them to the site will be a smart thing to do. Because when you add a member to a group, they are automatically added to the Members security group which gives them add/edit/delete privileges.
The content and the menu options that you see on a site vary according to the permissions that are assigned to you. A site owner usually grants you permissions to a site by adding you to a SharePoint group, such as Visitors. The group has a permission level that you receive by being a member of the group.
SharePoint will suggest users to be added to the Group Owners and Group Members group based on the site’s current users. If the site permissions groups contain security groups or Azure Active Directory groups, SharePoint is not able to suggest group members based on the contents of these groups – you must add these users to the group manually.
How is access determined in an Owners Group?
As a member of the Owners group you determine the level of access to your site. You can grant users access to the whole site, or to specific information on the site, such as a list or even a single file.
