When you do this, SharePoint Server 2016 does the following: Creates a user profile for each new user in the AD DS containers that are being synchronized, and fills in the properties of each new profile with data from the directory service. Deletes the profile of any user who was removed from the directory service.
The AD import option does not perform bidirectional synchronization. That means changes made to SharePoint user profiles will not be synchronized back to the domain controller. Referential integrity among users and groups is only maintained within a single Active Directory forest.
How to import SharePoint profile from Active Directory?

Incremental synchronization only synchronizes data that has changed in AD DS or SharePoint Server 2016, and is more efficient. You must perform a full synchronization the first time that you synchronize. After that, you can use incremental synchronization unless there have been changes to mapped properties or connections.
Can a single profile be used for SharePoint Server?

How does user profile synchronization work in azure?
The stub profile will be updated with all remaining data as part of the sync process. If block sign-in is set on the user account in Azure AD or disabled accounts are synced from Active Directory on premises, those user accounts will not be processed as part of the UPA sync process.

How to sync user profile with Active Directory?
