There are two ways of assigning permissions to a SharePoint site via groups: The first one is by adding a user to a SharePoint group, and the second one is giving an AD security group access directly to the site or putting it in a SharePoint group that has permissions on the site.
Selective grants are not possible. (For add-ins that request permissions on the fly, only a user with Manage permissions to the SharePoint resources that the add-in seeks to access can run the add-in, even if the add-in is asking only for lesser permissions, such as Read.)
Are there any exceptions to view permissions in SharePoint?
The exception is view-only access – Microsoft 365 groups don’t have view-only access, so any users you wish to have view permissions on the site must be added directly to the Visitors group on the site. Microsoft Teams provides a hub for collaboration by bringing together various services including a SharePoint team site.
