Note: When you turn off the Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open setting, any changes that you and other people make to Office files in your SharePoint will no longer merge together automatically. If this is givven, at my side at least, OneDrive sync from on-premises SharePoint with new ODfB (not groove.exe) works good. No matter whether you redirect OneDrive to O365 or keep it local, My Sites needs to be configured and work properly. I followed these steps, mainly My Site, OneDrive afterwards also worked.

Is it possible to migrate SharePoint from 2016 to 2019?
We run a SharePoint 2016 on-premise installation. Since we always have issues with groove.exe sync I have set up a SharePoint 2019 on-premise for testing and evaluation, if everything works fine, I’d like to migrate my 2016 content to 2019 and configure hybrid. Bur for now the 2019 is just a evaluation instance.
