Just setup a new 2013 SharePoint…Put a handful of users in an AD group that was then put in the SP site members group. Works perfect for most people, but some are getting access denied messages to the site even though they are in the AD group. If we give the people access explicitly in the SharePoint members group they have no troubles.
I’m having problem with my SharePoint 2013 people picker. It doesn’t shows any AD users at all. But strangely, when I pick/search people in its Central Administration site, all my AD users are shown. Both of the site are on the same server and of course were installed as a same package of sharepoint installation.
Where can I find the people profile in SharePoint?
On the SharePoint Central Administration website, in the Application Management section, click Manage service applications. On the Manage Service Applications page, click the User Profile service application name. On the Manage Profile Service page, in the People section, click Manage User Properties.
How to remove a mapping in Active Directory?

What happens when a user is added to an ad group?
The user not having his tokens cached prior to being added to the group would cause him to receive access immediately. Instead of changing the STS configuration as suggested in the blog posts, I’d suggest to just clear the Logon Token Cache. Thanks for contributing an answer to SharePoint Stack Exchange!
Is the user profile not responsible for AD security groups?
Thanks in advance. Late answer but, The User Profile is not responsible in this case. SharePoint recognizes AD security groups and attaching permissions to these groups will cause the permissions to be granted to the User.
Can a distribution group be used in SharePoint?
Distribution groups are not supported in SharePoint for permissions, and so if it is a nested distribution group that exists in the Security group, they still will be ignored. So in any way shape or form (nested or not) distribution groups cannot beused for security in SharePoint. It’s a Security Group. The last update on the servers is SP2.
