Edit the default file template
- Navigate to the site where your library is located.
- In SharePoint Server, on the ribbon, select the Library tab, then select Library Settings.
- Under General Settings, select Advanced settings.
- In the Document Template section, under the Template URL field, select Edit Template.
Edit the list template properties
- Select Settings. , and then select Site Settings.
- In the Web Designer Galleries column, select List templates.
- For the list template that you want to edit, in the Edit column, select Edit .
- Edit the information that you want to change, and then select OK.

What is a SharePoint site template? SharePoint site templates are prebuilt definitions designed around a particular business need. You can use these templates as they are to create your own SharePoint site, and then customize the site as much as you want.
Can you move a template from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013?
Note: Moving site templates between different versions, such as SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013, is not supported. Moving between SharePoint Servers 2013, 2016, and 2019 should work, though you may need to check the template to ensure it’s complete.
Download the site template from the solutions gallery to a file Navigate to the top-level site of your site collection. Click Settings, and then click Site Settings. In the Web Designer Galleries section, click Solutions. If it’s necessary to activate the solution, select it, and in the Commands group, click Activate.
The default size limit for a site template is 50 MB but might be less in your organization. You can always exclude the content, and then copy what you need later into the new site. Or, you can increase the size limit. For example, to increase the limit to the maximum allowed, use the following Stsadm command syntax.
