What is site collection level?
A site collection is made up of one top-level site and all sites below it. As shown in the following figure, it is the top level of organization in a SharePoint Server web application. The number of site collections you can have in a single web application depends on the capacity of your server infrastructure.
How to check the size of a SharePoint site?
- 1 Open the SharePoint site.
- 2 Click on Site Actions (gear icon) and then go to Site Settings → Site Collection Administration.
- 3 Click on the Storage Metrics page to view a list of all the sites and their sizes.
How to find out SharePoint site collection size?
You can also use SharePoint designer to find the size of your site collection. just open a site collection with designer and on the homepage under “Site Information” there is an indication for Total Storage Used: Change the site collection on the first row to your site collection.

Using the modern experience site collections is inline with our recommendation to create site collections for each unit of work to make it easier when you decide to migrate to SharePoint.
If you have Office 365 operated by 21Vianet (China), sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, then browse to the SharePoint admin center and open the Active sites page. In the upper right of the page, see the amount of storage used across all sites, and the total storage for your subscription.
How to manage site storage limits in Microsoft 365?
If you have Office 365 operated by 21Vianet (China), sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, then browse to the SharePoint admin center and open the Settings page. Select Site storage limits. Select Automatic or Manual, and then select Save.
