Why are white space characters not allowed in identifiers?
White space in names is not permitted. The last rule is used not only due to the difficulties with code understanding. The compiler needs to find out the meaning of words. It works on a “State Machine” method, and it needs to distinguish key words.
Why spaces are not allowed in variable names?
The reasons that spaces were historically disallowed in variable names is that it tends to introduce ambiguity into language grammars, where a space separating two identifiers may be meaningful (e.g. Haskell).
